1. What CEFOXITIN SODIUM FOR INJECTION is and what it is used for.

Cefoxitin is an antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. It may also be used before and during certain surgeries to help prevent infection. This medication is known as a cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Cefoxitin sodium is for the treatment of the following infections when they are caused by susceptible organisms:- infections in the abdomen and pelvis- female genital tract infections- blood infection- heart valve infection- urinary tract infections- respiratory tract infections- bone and joint infections- skin and skin structure infections .Cefoxitin sodium can also be used in combination with surgical drainage in the treatment of:- abscesses- organ perforation complicated by infection- cutaneous infection- infection of serous surfaces Post operative infections following gastrointestinal, biliary or genital surgery may be treated with Cefoxitin.In the treatment of any infection, it is important to isolate the bacteria and its antibacterial susceptibilities if possible before commencing treatment.

2. Before you use CEFOXITIN SODIUM FOR INJECTION

Before using cefoxitin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other cephalosporins; or to penicillins; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, liver disease, stomach/intestinal diseases (e.g., colitis).
Kidney function declines as you grow older. This medication is removed by the kidneys. Therefore, elderly people may be at greater risk for side effects while using this drug.

3. How to use CEFOXITIN SODIUM FOR INJECTION

Cefoxitin sodium for injection is to be used intravenously and intramuscularly.

4. Possible side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
diarrhea that is watery or bloody;
fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash;
swelling, pain, or irritation where the injection was given;
skin rash, bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness;
feeling light-headed, fainting;

5. Storing CEFOXITIN SODIUM FOR INJECTION
