1. What CEFPIROME SULPHATE FOR INJECTION is.
Introduction: Cefpirome sulphate for injection is a semisynthetic fourth
generation cephalosporin intended for intravenous administration. Cefpirome is
highly active against a wide range of gram +ve and gram-ve organisms.
Cefpirome is a frequently administered antibiotic in the initial empirical therapy of
patients experiencing severe or life-threatening infections.
2. Before you use CEFPIROME SULPHATE FOR INJECTION
Indications: Hospital and community-acquired infections caused by bacterial
organisms sensitive to cefpirome. Lower respiratory tract infections
(bronchopneumonia, lobar pneumonia); complicated upper (pyelonephritis) and
lower urinary tract infections; skin and soft tissue infections (cellulitis wound
infections); bacteraemia/septicaemia and severe infections in intensive care
patients; infections in neutropenic and immunocompromised patients.
3. How to use CEFPIROME SULPHATE FOR INJECTION
Dosage and Administration
This medication should normally be administered by a healthcare professional.
Dosage will vary depending on the patient and the condition being treated. As an example, the typical dosage for patients with urinary tract infection is 1gm, 2 times a day. Dosage when treated lower respiratory tract infection may be higher, at 1gm to 2gm.
4. Possible side effects.
Side effects: Rash, pruritus, urticaria; nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain,
diarrhoea; increased plasma levels of ASAT, ALAT, gamma-GT, LDH, bilirubin
and/or alkaline phosphatase; interstitial nephritis, acute renal failure;
thrombocytopaenia, eosinophilia, haemolytic anaemia, neutropaenia,
agranulocytosis; thrombophloebitis, pain at Inj site; convulsions, fever;
haemorrhage.
5. Storing CEFPIROME SULPHATE FOR INJECTION
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
It will be stored in the pharmacy or on the ward. It is kept in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 25.
